Peralta Trail - Saturday 5/14

Saturday morning Pam and I left at 4:30 in the morning and drove about 30 minutes to the superstition mountains.  Our goal was to conquer the Peralta trail.  We have always heard the peralta trail was a fun hike,  it turned out to be amazing.  Before we started Pam was concerned that we were totally unprepared.  I informed Pam that the hike is only 1 1/2 hours each way,  we had plenty of water and that Mountain Lions and Bob Cats are scared of humans.  We were the first ones on the trail.  It was quiet, peaceful and a great escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.  It is hard to believe you can be in another world  just a few miles out of the city.  The superstition mountains are beautiful.    Our goal now is to go hiking every weekend, or, maybe it was every other weekend,   now that I think of it, it was once a month,   a year?  In any event
we will be going again.   We  have a book that is called "60 hikes within 60 miles of phoenix",  we have conquered 1

After 1 1/2 hour of hiking we reached freemont Saddle with a Great view of Weavers Needle in the background.

Can you spot the Eagle?

The most wicked plant in the world on the right .  Keep your distance!!  I think all who have hiked or been in the desert have had encounters with this little devil.   Ouch!

This tree was all by itself on the top of the trail.

Halfway there looking back

Montezuma stop on the way home from Flagstaff

We have been traveling back and forth to Flagstaff  since we have moved here 11 years ago.  At Camp Verde there is a sign advertising the Montezuma Castle.   Each time we  pass the sign we have said it would be fun to see what it is.   Today we finally gave in and took a detour on our way home from  Chris and Abbys house.  It was well worth the detour.   The castle is amazing up in the cliffs.  It was built approximatly 1100ad an was occupied for 300 years.  If you have an extra hour,  take the detour and have a look.

Just happened to run into this babe on the trail
